As part of India’s quest to ‘Re-define the future of fashion and integrate India into the global fashion world, the Lakme Fashion week, runs twice a year and is the country to go to for all things fashion manufacturing based. With this in mind we can expect some of designs that challenge all notions of fashion in the traditional sense and see truly magical creations.
Pallavi Jaikishan with her runway show, celebrated four decades of her success in the business of fashion as she presented her Winter/Festive wear 2012. With a stage covered in colourful fresh flowers and greenery, the show itself was divided into four parts, entitled: “Sajala – Clouds with a Golden Lining, Mandara – The Mythical Tree, Elavia – A Thing of Beauty and Ayiana – The Eternal Bloom. The designs were filled with bridal and festive wear ranging from saris and kurtas, jackets, lehengas and anarkalis.
The sections were clearly defined with the first featuring a selection of light fabrics that almost floated down the catwalk, mixed with a pastel colour palette of cream, aqua and blush. The designs had a sense of gentle beauty about them. Section two, was set around Jaikishans love for the Mandara or the mythical tree and featured a heavy array of green tulle with 3D embellishments stitched onto netting.
Section three was different again featuring more of the bold colours and embellished Sari’s Indian women are known for wearing, the designs were captivating. The end of the show was all about bridal wear, but in the most unique way. Gone are the traditional westernized white dresses we are used too and the crowd was treated to designs that would truly make any bride special.
